Bio:
Dr. Christina M. Trujillo was appointed as the Principal of Yucca Elementary School in July 2022. With 20 years of experience in education, she has held various roles including English Learner Coordinator, Instructional Coach, and Reading Interventionist with the Rio Rancho Public Schools. She has also served as an SAT Coordinator, Attendance Team Coordinator, and Family Engagement Coordinator. Dr. Trujillo has taught grades 2-4 and K-5 English Learners, as well as adult English Learners at Santa Fe Community College. Additionally, she has experience working for the Department of Defense, the US Forest Service, and in private industry.

Dr. Trujillo earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from New Mexico State University in 2021 with a focus on languages and cultures. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in Management and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Leadership from the College of Santa Fe. A strong advocate for English as a Second Language education, she is a past Vice President of NM TESOL and recently participated in the 4 Corners Latinx Leadership Academy. Dr. Trujillo is also a recent recipient of the VFW National Citizenship Education-Teacher Award.

Though she grew up in various towns across New Mexico, Dr. Trujillo considers Roswell, NM her hometown and is a graduate of Santa Fe High School. She is the daughter of retired Chief Warrant Officer Salvador Soto and Mary Ann Soto, formerly of Alamogordo. Married to recently retired Chief Warrant Officer (CW5) Karl Trujillo for 31 years, she is proud to have supported her husband and children during Karl’s military service and deployments. The Trujillos are proud parents of two sons and grandparents to one granddaughter.

Dr. Trujillo’s commitment to family engagement is evident in her efforts to host events and develop partnerships with parents, guardians, teachers, and community members. She believes in the importance of educators and school families working together to highlight the cultural wealth of students. Dr. Trujillo is honored to be a part of the Alamogordo Public Schools community.
